Shari Alexander, Chef-Innkeeper, is a graduate of the New York Restaurant School. She won 3 stars from The New York Times when her restaurant “The Ship's Galley” in Sag Harbor was reviewed. After 10 years she successfully sold it and went on to create and manage restaurants in The Hamptons, Spain, and Sarasota, Florida. Shari has been in the food biz for over 25 years and has had a large celebrity clientele in her exciting career, including Alan Alda, Michael Douglas, Morgan Freeman and Billy Joel, to name only a few. Shari is a noted food and wine columnist, has been featured on many national TV shows, has contributed to various cook books and has written food columns under her own byline. She was recently inducted by her peers into the prestigious culinary association, "Les Amis d' Escoffier.”
The Red Maple Inn Cooking School is Shari's passion now. "It is such a fun way to learn about international cuisines, food techniques and history, plus spend an evening eating great food with new Foodie friends!" says Shari. Each class includes demonstrations of various International cuisines and local seasonal dishes, such as April In Paris, Summer Sizzlers, Treasures of Tuscany, Fiesta in Madrid, Fabulous Fall Favorites, Holiday Party Hits! and a whole evening of learning the secrets of professional chefs. 2007 classes will feature Fiesta Mexicana, fusion dishes learned during Chef Shari's recent winter sabbatical to San Miguel de Allende.
An informative and entertaining wine tasting is conducted with each class by The Red Maple Inn’s Sommelier, John Bills. Shari invites many of her culinary friends to be guest chefs at the RMI Cooking School, including TOP CHEFS Tom Schaudel and Miguel Morales, stars of TV shows and noted chef/restaurateurs. Like Shari, her friends love sharing their talent, signature dishes and passion for cooking! The whole atmosphere is filled with excitement and incredible aromas wafting from the kitchen. The classes start at 6 PM with a lively and fun-filled kitchen demonstration; the dishes are prepared and sampled both in the kitchen and seated together at the large “Tuscan Table” in the dining room with appropriate wine pairings and lively chatter about food and wine. By the end of each class everyone has made new friends, tasted new dishes and wines, and, best of all, shared a delicious and memorable experience.
